This week marks the annual Spring Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Known for her rock n’ roll, retro and bohemian designs, American designer Anna Sui presented her romantic boho chic spring collection. It incorporates vintage elements from the 60’s. She beautifully infuses earth tones like olive green and rustic brown with pastels.
Her inspiration for her collection was Pre-Raphaelite paintings, the modern bohemian, and clothing worn by natives during her travels to Asia including Indonesia and Kenya. Sui combines metallics with chiffon prints, lace, and fringe. She accessorized her models with gladiator sandals, beanies and floral crowns. Down the runway, the models wore light makeup, a look Sui is known for, and jewelry made of natural stones and beads.
Her collection includes kimonos, breezy short dresses and loose fitting pants. What I love most about her new spring collection is the prints and colors used to create a beautiful casual chic look.
Anna Sui is one of the few designers in fashion who captures a period of history and the culture of a specific group of people in her clothing. She is one of the biggest names in fashion today and continues to inspire us with her eye for turning history into art.
Which designers’ collections are you most excited to see during fashion week this spring?
